This collage - ‘La mosquée’ - was made four years ago in a refugee safe house in Calais, northern France, for our project Coronaquilt during the first lockdown. We share it here once again to mark the month of Ramadan and to extend our warmest wishes to Muslims who are observing around the World, particularly in places of war and conflict and for those experiencing displacement, on journeys of exile and seeking refuge.
We think of all those fasting from sunrise to sundown while struggling to survive outdoors on the edges of Dunkirk and Calais, on borders, in hotels, in camps and hostels; across our projects in Paris, Calais, Folkestone, Essex, London and Bristol. We also think of all those offering practical support, solidarity and respect at this time.
